Insta-family: Days 2 and 3

Day 2 was a special challenge because Tim was in San Diego for a residency interview.

Things I did right:

  • packed two lunches
  • got two kids ready before school
  • got two kids to bus stop ON TIME

Things that need improvement:

  • Forgot to put Calvin’s lunch in backpack (he was able to buy lunch at school… not sure if I owe somebody money or if he acquired somebody else’s lunch money the old-fashioned way)
  • Squiggles was in her pajamas until noon
  • Ivy was in her pajamas until noon-thirty
  • I was in my pajamas… well… sometimes I just call my pajamas “yoga pants” and then I feel trendy

That night Lance (bless his bum) came and helped me get the kids to bed. I tried to tell a silly good-night story, replete with kitten detectives and underwear ending up on the villain’s head, but in the end it wasn’t up to snuff.

“Good try,”  Bryn said.

“It was okay,” Calvin said.

“Uhh… could you get Lance?” Ivy said.

So I did, and he told a far superior story that I couldn’t hear due to all the laughter and clapping and squealing.

Day 3:

Luckily Tim showed up before any of us woke up, and things went much more smoothly.  I put on big-girl clothes and went to work, for example.

At dinner, we had the following conversation:

Me:  Do you need to blow your nose, Darling?

Squiggles (eats booger):  No.

Me:  Do we eat boogers?

Squiggles (laughs, looks at me like I’m certifiably stupid):  Noooo…

Me:  Do you eat boogers, Bryn?

Bryn:  No.

Me: Do you eat boogers, Calvin?

Calvin.  No!

Me:  Do you eat boogers, Ivy?

Ivy  (thinks about it):  Only the dry ones.

It’s good to have standards.

You're doing stupendously!

Hey, at least everyone is still alive. In the end, that's all that really counts.

I'm really impressed- I don't think I could have gotten everyone to the bus stop on time by myself, let alone with two extra kids. I also wear "yoga pants" a lot of days.

I'm learning all sorts of things about Ivy with these posts. Keep 'em up.
