I'll push myself up through the dirt and shake my petals free
I'm resigned to being born and so resigned to bravery.

When Karen was in Boston: Hurricane Sandy

We stayed home Monday while Sandy howled outside and beat against our windows.  We watched movies all day with Squiggles, and didn’t feel guilty about it on account of all the activity that had gone on the preceding days.  That evening we lost power, so we all went to bed in our not-big-enough-queen-sized bed upstairs.  It was so quiet and dark.  Squiggles was missing her crib, so Tim slept on the sofa in her room so she wouldn’t have to sleep alone in the pitch-black dark.  That night, I was awake around 2:00 am, so I went outside.  The rain had stopped and the sky was completely clear with an almost sacred view of the full moon.  It was breathtaking.

Rumor has it that Lance and Karen and Cami snuggled under blankets and watched the hurricane out Cami’s gigantic window.

We were lucky we only lost power for a night – many lost much, much more.

The next day, I had a committee meeting – they told me I could plan on completing my studies in February if all goes well.  They said, “If…”

Oh, that mean wicked step-mother. If is a cruel, cruel word.
