A jolly fine Chistmas fir

This year I decided that even poor graduate students (the worst people in the world according to Ms. Fey) deserve a proper Christmas tree. Tim toted it (and several other trees that I interviewed) all around Home Depot and managed to stuff it in the backseat of his car before carrying it up the narrow stairs to my apartment. And he helped decorate it, but would not admit to it if asked.

Is your tree up?

What a cute fir! You and Tim did great! Love the cute shrub box you made to go along side of it... SO DANG CUTE! Nice wood floors, is that your apartment?

That's quite a festive and lovely tree carcass you've got there. We put our plastic model up and let the kids decorate the lower 3 feet. Now they think they can rearrange the ornaments whenever the whimsy strikes.

And then there's the lone jingle bell ornament that has them convinced that if they just shake the rest of the glass balls hard enough, they too will jingle, which they sort of do when they shatter on the ground.

So when do you want to have them over to help you with your obvious design flaws ( those flaws being balance, wholeness, not more than one ornament on a branch, etc.)?

Do you think it's a problem when someone posts a comment longer than your original post?

My tree is not up, nor will I be putting one up this year. I refuse to repeat last year's fiasco of leaving it up for months and months. I'm still a little sad about it, but I've come to peace with my decision.

Great tree! Does your apartment smell all pinetree-ish (that should be a word) now? :)
Love the decorations too!

You never cease to amaze me! The tree and decorations are lovely. They bring a festive spirit to computer land. I'm certain your apartment is full of Christmas spirit now.

I cannot believe you got a real tree. You are not a true Dickey.

Wait - how can everybody tell that it's real? It is, but how do you know?

Laura - Speaking from my point of view: It's not so much that I can tell by the picture that it's real and not fake, but more that I just can't imagine my friend Laura ever buying a plastic tree! It wouldn't ever cross my mind.
You're too much of a nature-lovin' girl to go plastic on Christmas. And besides, the pine smell is too good to pass up.
