Public Service Announcement

I consider myself somewhat of an expert on graham crackers, partly because several years ago I listened to an NPR program  regarding the snack (named after the Presbyterian minister who invented them in the hopes that it would suppress carnal urges in youngers), and partly because I think I may hold the world record for graham crackers consumed by a single human.

I love them.

My sister-in-law Jill and I used to sit around her kitchen table eating graham crackers and milk while catching up on gossip, current events, and politics.  We would each have one or two.  Packages.

As a sickly preggo, I’ve abandoned most of the foods I love most due to my condition of despising nearly all organic matter; fortunately, graham crackers and milk are one of the few snacks that I can still genuinely enjoy – usually at 2:00 am when I’m up for my nighttime meal.

I have realized that not all graham crackers are the same.  This is a recent revelation.  Some go stale the moment they touch air, and some disintegrate on immediate contact with milk.   I think I’ve tested them all now, and the results are in:

Nabisco Honey Made Graham Crackers are by far the best with regard to taste, durability (you can sneeze comfortably while dipping without worry that you’ll end up with graham mush), and longevity – they come in very sturdy packaging that prevents the elements from prematurely aging the crackers.

Happy dipping.

Oh yes...best snack ever!

I have found a graham that out ranks Nabisco. Trader Joe's cinnamon grahams are divine! Ever since tasting them for the first time, I've been praying even harder that a Trader Joe's will come to Utah.

p.s. I have happy memories of eating graham and milk with you too.

I enjoy graham crackers myself. Just think. If this baby were a cute little boy, and not a sweet little girl, you could name him "Graham"!
I am also happy that you can still enjoy them.

I am so relieved to find this out. Particularly the part about sneezing. If I can't comfortably sneeze while I dip a graham cracker, I don't want anything to do with it.

:) I am glad you are able to enjoy a good snack amidst the morning sickness!

I enjoyed graham crackers A TON as a child too until the unfortunate day I fell ill after I had just eaten a package or two. I haven't been able to stomach them since. But it's been to the envy of all who still enjoy them. Maybe after twenty-something years I should try them again... Glad to know which brand has the best. Do they make them in cinnamon?

Have you ever tried a graham cracker peanut butter sandwich? I just remembered doing this when I read your post. I used to love that.

To make one, spread peanut butter between two graham cracker sections and dip in milk. Really, it is yummy.

Jill and Joanne: I personally consider cinnamon graham crackers to be blasphemous, but Tim and the baby love them, too.

Karen: I am glad you understand and acknowledge the gravity of the situation.

Marsha: I haven't tried that, but I already love it.

I agree with you completely. I also love the chocolate variety but they are overall less durable.

It's true. I get my kids the Market Basket brand grahams because I know I'd eat all the Nabiscos. And I also can't stand cinnamon graham crackers- what happened to us as kids?!?

Here is what you do with graham crakers. You go down to Walmart and buy that ready make cream cheeze frosting. Then you spread a thin coat of it on the top of the cracker. Then you spread a thin coat of strawberry jam on top of that. Then you eat it all gone. It make the perfect graham cracker even perfecter.
