We have an annual tradition of biking the coast of Newport, Rhode Island (though we didn’t go last year due to our condition of having an infant). Apparently I have been too busy gawking at the ocean to notice the beautiful countryside. This year we rode slowly, taking in the other beautiful scenes the city has to offer (mostly due to our condition of being (ahem) slightly out-of-shape).
These little guys were severely angered by my existence:
We also rode past some modest homes:
My mother fell in love with the following mansion when we took her on this ride a couple years ago. I don’t see how it is that much different than the house I grew up in (meaning that it is also white).
We just viewed the mansions from a distance since they have a “No bikes in mansions” policy. The Breakers:
And… well… we couldn’t help but gawk at Newport’s share of the Atlantic. It’s kind of pretty.
Yes, this is the best picture I got of us:
We ate at our favorite clam shack (meaning that they let us park our bikes there and eat outside).
At the time, it seemed like a great idea to order lots of fried food.
But we regretted it during the last 15 miles of the ride.

I want to go on this ride. It look amazing! I'd pass on the clams though. Not a fan.
How have I never done this ride with you?!! What a gorgeous day - weather and otherwise. And I love those angry cows. I think I'll be thinking of their faces and giggling throughout the day!
Can we pretty please do this ride when we come out this fall? It looks so beautiful.
Just what the heck did you do to those little calves?!? They look ready to charge.
Karen, for sure we can. I'm inviting my self along, too.
I love Newport! Glad you got to go and enjoy such a beautiful day!
Beautiful! Someday maybe I'll have to invite myself along too!
Fun! Great date idea. Saturday was the one perfect day in the past ten (and unfortunately what looks like the next ten) for such an exertion. :)
This actually made me want to dust off my bike and take a ride. What a great tradition. Isn't it amazing all the things you can see while moving slowly? I laughed at the cows, but loved how pastoral the sheep looked.
I still love that house. And that ride. I enjoyed all of the creatures you saw. I didn't know they lived on the East Coast! Next time I want to go again!
Yay! I like to call the cows with the strip down the middle, the oreo cow. I miss the Atlantic.
I think that is such a great tradition! And I love the pictures. You are quite the photographer! I used to be obsessed with cows when I was a teenager--I thought their spots (and those oreo cows) were so CUTE! Then I went and visited some cows. I don't think that cute applies anymore. But I still like to look at cows :-) And I am so flattered that Tim approves of me. Really ;-)I think he's a keeper (even before you told me that of course)
