I have this really great friend who also happens to be my cousin. We have been best friend-cousins since childhood, when my parents would ship me off to be raised by her family during certain crises such as the births of Cami, Karen, Lance, and Stupid Cat.
We went to the same high school, and shared a blanket during AP chemistry when the heaters weren’t working properly. We also ran track together, but she was much (much) faster than I was – I didn’t care, I was just proud to be related to her.
In addition, we lived in the Tetons together for two summers, and went hiking, jogging by the Snake river, on adventures to K-mart, river rafting, and on trips to Yellowstone.
Marsha always had more friends than I did, and she let me hang out with them in college. We went to dances, backpacking to that one lake near Tony Grove (d’oh… memory shot due to infant), and on many, many hikes and double dates.
She’s awesome other than being my friend – she used to be a camp counselor in California during the summers, and lived in Namibia when she was in the Peace Corps. She lives a minimalist life, doesn’t take more than her share, leaves no trace, and is one of the wittiest people I know. She has an awesome sense of humor - I like her so much.
The greatest thing about her is that even though she remembers my birthday every single year, she always forgives me for knowing that her birthday is … umm… sometime in March. I’m not very good with birthdays. But.
maybe it’s today?
Happy birth month, Marsha! Love you tons!

I'm glad you were born, Marsha! I think Marsha is great, too, and my girls love her, too! Have a happy day!
Awwwww, I am seriously flattered Laura. You already know this, but you are the peachiest best friend-cousin a girl could have. ;)
Thank you so much for your kind words and all the great memories this brought back. You make me sound much more fun and cool than I actually am! I miss you tons and am anxiously -and perhaps vainly- waiting for the day you move back.
P.S. Today IS my actual birthday. :)
Happy, happy birthday Marsha!! I like you so much, too. You are ridiculously witty and also a genuinely good person. The world would be better if there were more people like you living on it. Truly.
Hurray for Marsha! Happy birthday! I remember going down to Laura's room and finding a stash of wrapped gifts. Laura said, "Those are Marsha's birthday presents. From last year. And the year before. And one for this next year because I'm not going to forget this year." Hee hee hee.
That was so sweet, Laura, and so true! Happy birthday, Marsha!
Happy Birthday Marsha. What Laura says is true. You really are a fantastic person, and a good person to know.
We love you.
Okay, I knew you were Marsha's favorite cousin (she says so on my wedding video) but I didn't realize how many fun things you did together! How fun to learn more about Marsha. Hope she reads my happy birthday wishes as well!
Happy late birthday, Marsha! I love you, too. I remember how you stayed with Laura all one summer even though she had the cough of a dying tuberculosis victim. You're a favorite!
