Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
~ Robert Frost
I've been thinking about this poem. Is it true?

The poem uses trees and the sun as it's symbols. And while it's true that nothing gold can stay, it's also true that the pattern is cyclical and that gold comes back again each spring, and that the sun also rises each day. Furthermore, if we didn't have the changing seasons and the dying of the day, we wouldn't appreciate the gold as much.
Fools gold can't stay.
Real gold endures forever.
Stay golden Ponyboy. Stay golden.
